About You / What We Are Looking For

 

The City of Coquitlam is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated Aquatic Leaders to join our team! As an Aquatic Leader, you would utilize your aquatic skills to instruct swimming lessons for members of the public for a variety of age levels. You would additionally be responsible to perform various basic maintenance tasks to ensure clean facilities, as well as assisting with facility and program setups. If you enjoy working with the public while applying your knowledge of swimming and public safety, we look forward to your application!

 

These auxiliary positions work a non-standard work week, and may be required to work evenings and weekends. Shifts may be subject to change due to operational need.          
 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Our next Aquatic Leaders must posses the following qualifications:

  • Completion of some high school or higher education;
  • Knowledge of aquatic programs;
  • Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Certificate;
  • Standard First Aid Certificate;
  • C.P.R. – Level C;
  • National Lifeguard Award - Pool Option.

 

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to indicate date of issue and provide photocopies of current and up-to-date certifications.

 

Recruitment Process:

  1. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for skills screening, which will be held on either Wednesday, August 28th or Thursday, August 29th, 2024, at City Centre Aquatic Complex (1210 Pinetree Way).
  2. Candidates who successfully complete the skills screening will be invited to an interview between the dates of September 3rd – 15th, 2024.
  3. Successful candidates will be required to attend one of two series of dates for mandatory training and orientation at City Centre Aquatic Complex as per below:
    1. October 8th, 10th, 15th, and 17th (Tuesday and Thursday) – 5:30 – 10pm
    2. October 22nd, 24th, 29th, November 5th (Tuesday and Thursday) - 5:30 – 10pm
       

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Previous experience working as a swim instructor, lifeguard or aquatic leader in a similar capacity would be considered an asset.
  • Other related certifications, such as Pool Operator or Aquatic Fitness, or advanced aquatic certifications such as National Lifeguard Instructor, Lifesaving Instructor or Swim For Life Trainer, would be considered assets.

 

What We Offer:

 

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $28.88 - $31.02 (2024 rates), plus 12% in lieu of benefits. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
