About You / What We Are Looking For

 

The City of Coquitlam is currently seeking a motivated Building Maintenance Worker to join our Facilities team in a regular part time capacity (18 hours per week). With an emphasis on strong customer service and the efficient diagnosis of issues, this role is responsible for ensuring the operation of heating, water and ventilating equipment and other related systems in Municipal buildings. This position will additionally perform routine repair, building maintenance, custodial work and service duties. The incumbent will exercise sound judgement and possess the ability to work independently in their day-to-day activities and tasks. Major maintenance, repairs or expenditures outside service contract arrangements will be referred to a superior. 

 

Types of tasks include, but are not limited to: painting, plumbing, carpentry, electrical trades, and general maintenance and janitorial work.  Our next Building Maintenance Worker will have the ability to pre-emptively identify potential problems and work to resolve them. To be successful, they must also be able to prepare and maintain reports and records related to the work, as well as possess skill in the use and care of tools and machinery related to the work.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in building maintenance and servicing work, as well as working knowledge of the functions and operations of heating, ventilating and hot water equipment and systems.
  • Completed some technical courses such as Power Engineering or related courses at a vocational institute, plus some related experience in building maintenance operation, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. 
  • A driver’s license for the Province of BC with satisfactory driving record is also required
  • An understanding of building envelope and construction practices

 

What We Offer:

 

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $28.86 - $33.86. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.  This position is 18 hours per week, and you will receive 12% in lieu of benefits. This position is based in Coquitlam. The successful candidate will have the ability to contribute to the Municipal Pension Plan.You will have the chance to join a rapidly growing and diverse team dedicated to supporting the local community, and be able to engage in variety of learning and development opportunities.
