About You / What We Are Looking For

 

The City of Coquitlam is currently hiring for one Regular Full Time Irrigation Systems Worker. Working within the Parks Infrastructure team, you and a small team of Irrigation System Workers will be working to support over 45 sport field irrigation systems, as well as more than 200 irrigation systems in horticultural beds, trees, and turf within our parks and along our medians and boulevards.         

 

As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for maintaining and operating a variety of irrigation systems across the City. You will perform preventative maintenance tasks, along with perform routine repair and/or replacement tasks such as overhauling and rebuilding sprinkler heads and valves. As the Irrigation Systems Worker, you will also program and operate computerized Central Control Software as well as various other conventional irrigation timers. You will further be responsible for performing annual testing of backflow preventers within the park system during start up and will be responsible for winterizing systems as well. You will also utilize your excellent communication skills to respond to the public as well as internal requests for service.

 

As a member of the Park Infrastructure team you will also participate in the installation of irrigation systems in lawn, sport fields, horticulture beds as well as adding irrigation systems to improve plant and tree health.

 

 

If you would like to utilize your excellent irrigation systems knowledge and your expertise in the area of irrigation system installation and maintenance, we are looking for you to join our Parks Infrastructure team.

 

Qualifications

 

The ideal candidate would be a Certified Level 1 & 2 Irrigation Technician (IIABC) and will have completed some post secondary turf and/or landscape horticulture education, supplemented by technical courses in irrigation systems maintenance. You would also have at 3-5 years of related experience. Please note that an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. A Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia, along with an A.W.W.A. Cross Connection Control Certificate are required.

 

Please further note that an IIABC Irrigation Designer CID Certification and/or a Certified Irrigation Scheduler Certification would be considered assets.

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range $40.85 per hour (2024 rates), The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
