About You / What We Are Looking For

 

We are seeking two Parks Planner 2 positions to join our Parks, Recreation, Culture and Facilities Department to lead the planning and development of Coquitlam’s park system. This senior professional role involves acting as the City’s representative on a variety of strategic park initiatives including leading the planning and design of amazing new parks, trails and open spaces. Day to day work involves managing and directing consultant teams, reviewing technical drawings, specifications, and cost estimates, as well as researching, analyzing and interpreting complex information to provide recommendations to senior staff. The Park Planner 2 also reviews policy, provides oversight of development proposals, liaises with internal and external interest holders on strategic projects, and plans and prepares presentations to community groups, Advisory committees and City Council.

 

You have worked in professional teams under tight deadlines and are able to skillfully navigate the park design processes. Writing complex policy reports and delivering public presentations comes easily to you. You require minimal supervision, have experience supervising staff, possess a positive can-do attitude with a willingness to learn and improve. Qualifications

 

Your knowledge of parks is grounded in a degree in Landscape Architecture, Land-Use Planning, or related discipline. Although not required, a Master’s Degree would be considered an asset along with considerable related experience managing complex Public Park and open space projects. You can think outside the box, navigate politically sensitive situations and know when to ask for help. People describe you as a team player and enjoy working with you. Finally, you have or are eligible for full membership in BC Society of Landscape Architects (BCSLA), and/or the Planning Institute of BC (PIBC) and possess a valid Driver’s License for the Province of BC (with satisfactory driving record).

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $54.43 - $64.46. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.

Additionally, there is an opportunity to participate in an earned day off program. This position is based in Coquitlam. The City offers an attractive vacation and extended benefits package, including the ability to contribute to the Municipal Pension Plan.
