JOB SUMMARY
In this role, you will undertake research and analysis and provide professional planning advice on land use and policy planning matters. The Planner II, Policy reports to the Manager of Policy in the Planning and Urban Design department. 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor, review, and interpret provincial, regional, and local policy issues related to land use planning. 
  • Review, coordinate, and prepare reports and recommendations regarding provincial legislation and policies. 
  • Provide support to Senior Planners leading complex planning studies, initiatives, and programs such as official plan reviews, secondary plans, housing, and implementing legislative changes.
  • Brief senior staff and management on major initiatives from other levels of government and agencies. 
  • Develops terms of reference for consultant studies and supports the evaluation and selection process.
  • Attend, participate and/or organize meetings as required with agencies, committees, and stakeholders.
  • Respond to inquiries from the public and internal and external stakeholders, as required.
  • Prepare and present formal reports and recommendations to Council and Committees of Council.
  • Represent the Department on internal and external committees, relating to land use planning, as required. 
  • Facilitate and supports public consultation and community outreach.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Must have a Degree in Planning, or related discipline, combined with a minimum of 3 years of experience in land use and policy planning. 
  • Thorough knowledge of municipal related legislation and policies including, but not limited to the Ontario Planning Act, provincial policy statements and plans, and local and regional planning policy frameworks.         
  • Excellent communication, analytical, problem solving, and computer skills are required.
  • Superior report writing, communication and presentation skills.
  • Well-developed project management skills, including the ability to set priorities, solve problems and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, problem solving, and computer skills are required.
  • Must be willing and able to attend meetings during and after regular business hours.
  • Advanced proficiency computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent teamwork and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with video conferencing software including Zoom and Microsoft Teams an asset.
  • Full or candidate membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute and Canadian Institute of Planners is considered an asset.

Salary & Benefits

Salary Range: $77,105.00 To 86,637.00 Annually
