The Financial Strategist will be instrumental in driving the Calgary Housing Company (CHC) reach its ambitious vision to be the best affordable housing provider in Canada. Primary duties include:
- Provide complex long-range financial forecasting, strategic financial advice, investing, funding and lending management.
- Enable internal divisions' work through the provision of robust and sophisticated financial analysis and modeling.
- Liaise with external funders and lenders from the Government of Alberta (GoA), City of Calgary (CoC) and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).
- Perform financial modelling and long-term forecasting to support the portfolio management team in making strategic decisions and recommendations with respect to CHC-managed and owned portfolios. Perform financial planning with regards to various funding sources as well as the establishment and management of reserves.
- Support financial investment decisions related to portfolio management such as acquisition, divestiture, transition to mixed income model, sustainability plan, real estate strategy for CHC.
- Provide strategic recommendations to the CHC's executive leaders and provide financial planning, funding, and financing strategic advice in collaboration with the portfolio management division and other divisions at CHC.
- Perform robust cash flow management and banking functions.
- Perform investment policy updates as well as investment reporting to CHC's Board of Directors, CHC's Audit and Risk Management (ARM) Committee and the executive leadership team.
- Liaise with funding and lending partners to support CHC's financial strategy.
- Prepare reconciliations, journal entries and financial statements related to cash, reserves, debt and investments.
- A degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or a closely related field along with completion of a CPA, CFA or other designation. Preference will be given to candidates with a CFA designation.
- At least 5 years of related experience.
- A strong working knowledge of financial principles.
- CRF certification in real estate finance or completion of real estate finance courses, as well as Real Estate Finance experience will be considered an asset.
- Experience with financial analysis, interpretation of policy and providing guidance on financial strategy.
- Intermediate/advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Knowledge of macros will be considered an asset.
- The ability to build strong relationships and collaborate with multi-disciplined teams including executive management, other areas of The City, all CHC divisions and the provincial government.
- Success in this position requires the following competencies: strategic thinking, well-developed analytical and communication skills, a high attention to detail and quality, and political acumen.
$44.20 - $59.09 per hour
