Water Resources is seeking an experienced civil engineering technologist to join our team in providing engineering services for the management of Saanich’s sanitary sewer, water and storm drainage systems including infrastructure planning and capacity analysis, capital replacement design and construction and operational technical support. The successful candidate will work in the infrastructure design & construction section; a technical team that delivers the capital program.  The work of the Engineering Technician V involves performing civil engineering work at a semi-professional level including project scoping, engaging the services of professional engineering consultant through the request for proposal process,  managing the design and delivery of engineering projects from the concept phase through to construction completion; responding to public inquiries; providing technical support to internal construction crews; liaising with/making recommendations to the Engineering of Record regarding design changes; mentoring junior staff and participating in intra or inter-departmental initiatives. The successful candidate will possess strong technical and project management skills, is well organized, and has strong communication skills.

Requirements

Requirements include a two-year diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution; a minimum of 8 years of directly related experience; registered as an AScT with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC; and a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.

Those who may not specifically meet the full extent of the listed qualifications are encouraged to apply, as the District may consider the totality of education, experience and training as an equivalent. Alternate qualifications will also be considered, such as a University Degree in a related field of Engineering and four (4) years of work experience. 

As a component of the selection process, testing will be conducted.

Salary & Benefits

This is a C.U.P.E.
