About You / What We Are Looking For

The successful candidate will climb trees, using ropes and a safety harness, to prune and trim street and park trees. The work is performed from the ground, ladders, elevated platforms, and free climbing within the canopy, using power saws, chipping machines, and other hand tools. The Tree Worker 2 will also participate in tree removal and stump grinding, tree planting and fertilization, and apply integrated pest management treatments.       

Furthermore, you will be overseeing contractors, and providing direction and training to staff engaged in manual work. As the work may be hazardous and strenuous, you will effectively exercise proper safety precautions in performing your work. If you enjoy working outside, performing physical labour, while utilizing your knowledge of pruning trees using various equipment and tools, we look forward to your application!      
 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Completed high school.
  • Experience in climbing trees for the purpose of completing tree care and maintenance.
  • Courses in arboriculture, urban forestry or horticulture, as well as sound related experience; or completion of the Skilled Trades BC Climbing Arborist program; or attainment of an ISA certification. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
  • A Class 5 Drivers License for the Province of British Columbia is required.        
     

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Applicants who have previous municipal experience, or a Tree Risk Assessor’s Qualification may be given preference.

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $36.68. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
