Do you have a passion for parks? Do you want to gain practical, hands-on experience? The District of Saanich, the largest municipality on Vancouver Island, has a diverse parks system with over 170 parks and natural areas and over 100 kms of trails. The Parks Division is seeking a Student Parks Technician. In this role, you’ll perform a variety of operational tasks to support the Planning and Development Section of Saanich Parks by providing education and outreach to residents as part of the People, Pets and Parks program. Responsibilities also include   field work, research, and  data collection  that contribute to the parks’ GIS database and Asset Management program.

Requirements

Requirements include: one year of post-secondary education; enrollment in a full-time post-secondary education program is mandatory; preference will be given to those enrolled in a parks related field such as Geography, Resource Management, Outdoor Recreation, etc. at a University or Technical Institution; one month previous work experience; and a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with occasional evening or weekend work depending on operational needs. The work will encompass both outdoor tasks in the parks and indoor responsibilities within an office setting.

Salary & Benefits

This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $31.22 per hour plus 15% in lieu of benefits (equivalent to $35.90 per hour).
