Description
The City of Summerside is looking for an enthusiastic engineer to be part of our team to help grow our electric utility and to strengthen its reliability and security. This position is responsible for providing engineering support services for various City projects that require electrical utility infrastructure.  The position has considerable contact with other municipal employees, contractors, and the public.

 

Duties:

  • Report directly to the Electrical Engineer within the Municipal Services Department.
  • Assist with operational support that is technical in nature.
  • Work on developments for infrastructure upgrades on capital projects.
  • Set up of work packages/work orders for operational staff.
  • Assist with the archiving/library of engineering/maintenance documents.
  • Create excel spreadsheets for determining preventative maintenance planning schedules.
  • Assist with the entry of database information on utility assets and conditions.
  • Assist with Smart Grid and SCADA system review and implementation.
  • Use SCADA system to gather data on various systems such as: windfarm, solar, city electrical load, energy, battery system and more.
  • Provide general support to the department.
  • Other duties as required.
Requirements

Required Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from a recognized engineering program in Canada.
  • Have or can attain ‘Engineering in Training’ status with the Association of Professional Engineers of Prince Edward Island.
  • Electric Utility experience an asset.
  • Supervisory control and data acquisition exposure for industrial applications.
  • Renewable energy experience an asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Knowledge of basic surveying principles.
  • Ability to express ideas effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of basic computer, CAD, and Electric Utility Software.
  • Programming skills are an asset.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, contractors, and the public.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Bilingual skills would be considered an asset.

Salary Range: $86,325-$114,064
