Are you passionate about driving economic growth, fostering innovation and working with new businesses? Strathcona County is seeking an adaptable and personable business development professional to join our award-winning team in the position of Economic Development Officer, Diversification – Investment Attraction. This position will primarily focus on supporting new business investments within Agribusiness and Value-Added Agriculture but will also facilitate investment in Strathcona County’s other diversification sectors, including: Petrochemicals, Logistics and Advanced Manufacturing. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in achieving our community's economic objectives, particularly through activities in support of attracting new Value-Added Agriculture investments. 

Responsibilities

  • Implement projects and coordinate activities to facilitate the growth of diversification sectors, particularly Value-Added Agriculture
  • Provide timely, accurate, and useful economic data to investors and developers to encourage and facilitate new economic growth
  • Collaborate with investors and stakeholder groups to improve the business case for businesses to invest in Strathcona County’s diversification sectors
  • Develop content, promotional tools and events to market Strathcona County as an ideal location for new business investment from diversification sectors, particularly Value-Added Agriculture
Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree or Diploma in management, commerce, business, marketing or a related field 
  • A minimum of two years' experience (with degree) or four experience (with diploma) that combines experience in business development, economic development or related
  • A certificate in Economic Development is an asset
  • Expert knowledge of economic development techniques and their application to complex development issues
  • Experience developing reports and presentations and contributing to cross functional working groups
  • Knowledge and ability to use a variety of computer software applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, CRM Systems and working knowledge of GIS 
  • Excellent public relations, writing and communications skills
  • Proven strategic and critical thinking abilities, including strong analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to use data to make sound decisions, solve problems, and guide actions
  • Knowledge of the agricultural sector is an asset

Conditions of Employment

  • Submission of Satisfactory Criminal Record Check 
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence with a personal vehicle for work, and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits 
Salary & Benefits

Salary Range: $79,470.40 - $99,353.80
