Description
Parkland County has an opportunity for a temporary, full-time Development Officer position in Planning & Development Services working until approximately December 2024.  Reporting to the Senior Planner, Development Planning, the Development Officer is an essential member of the Development Planning Team and is primarily responsible for processing development permit applications of varying complexity, this is accomplished by working within the parameters of the Municipal Government Act, Municipal Development Plan, Land Use Bylaw, and area structure plans, outline plans, and other County policies. The Development Officer must demonstrate strong technical planning, presentation, and time management skills required to communicate effectively with the County’s customer base, business community, intergovernmental partners, staff throughout the organization, Management, Council, and Committees of Council. The Development Officer should have a strong background in municipal development and growth, understand the professional and political atmosphere of municipal government and be a proven performer in the continued development and implementation of long-term growth strategies. When required, the Development Officer will also provide back up support for the responsibilities of the Development Planner I. 

Requirements

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following:

  • A degree or Trade Certificate in Planning or a related discipline is required. Alternate education criteria may be considered in combination with relevant professional experience. 
  • A minimum of two (2) to four (4) years’ experience in a municipal planning function with knowledge of land use practices and sustainable growth strategies is required.
  • An Applied Land Use Certificate would be considered and asset. 
  • Exceptional Customer Service skills with the ability to respond and anticipate customer needs in a professional manner is required. 
  • Strong time management, critical thinking and prioritization skills are required. 
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.  Upon hire, a satisfactory current Driver’s Abstract must be provided.
Salary & Benefits

The total rewards package for this position includes:

A starting annual salary of $56,200 to $70,200 based on a 35-hour work week and option to join the Earned Day Off Program.
