JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Project Manager – Parks Planning, this position will be responsible for reviewing, evaluating and providing recommendations related to parkland serving development applications, preparing policies, strategies, guidelines and implementation plans for emerging parkland priorities, and preparing and coordinating communications for staff, Council and external stakeholders with respect to parkland.    

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review, coordinate and prepare park comments on secondary plans, community design plans, subdivision plans, rezoning applications and site plans. Identify and negotiate alternative development concepts and approaches related to parkland as required.
  • Manage Parks Planning projects and studies, including procurement of consultants, background research, policy reviews, preparation of guidelines, and developing implementation strategies in accordance with applicable legislation and policies.
  • Prepare draft staff reports, briefing notes and memos as required, including recommendations to Council.  
  • Draft and coordinate development agreement conditions for official plan and zoning by-law amendments, subdivisions and site plans approvals related to parkland conveyance, base park development, developer-build park etc. 
  • Respond to public inquiries; attend information/public/committee meetings and present information. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Professional degree in Landscape Architecture or Urban Planning from an accredited program, or related educational background. 
  • Full membership in the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects or Ontario Professional Planning Institute and Registered Professional Planner designation considered an asset. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working on progressively complex development approvals, planning studies and design guidelines. Municipal experience considered an asset. 
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of landscape architecture, project management, park programming and design, urban design, official plan policies, municipal zoning by-laws, master planning, budgeting, and contract management.
  • Knowledge of Ontario Planning Act regulations and procedures, including parkland dedication sections.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent considered an asset.

Salary & Benefits

Salary Range: $87,029.00 To $116,765.00 Annually
