About You / What We Are Looking For

Our Parks, Recreation, Culture and Facilities Department is currently recruiting for energetic and passionate Program Leaders with experience working with youth to help support various facilities and programs in Coquitlam.

We are looking for vibrant and energetic people who can mentor and empower youth through building trusting relationships. Youth Program Leaders will have experience working with youth in a recreation setting.  They’ll have a leadership responsibility for planning, implementing and leading a variety of social, cultural, sport, and general interest activities for youth ages 11-18 through our Youth Centres, Youth Programming, and outreach programs.  Where needed, they are able to help youth to access community resources and services.  Students pursuing an education in community social services or youth outreach are encouraged to apply for this dynamic position.

Minimum Qualifications

Our next Program Leaders will have experience leading arts, culture, recreation or outreach programs for youth 11-18 years in a community setting and/or the equivalent coaching and volunteer experience.  Candidates must possess current and valid first aid and CPR certifications (minimum Emergency First Aid with CPR C from Red Cross, St John Ambulance, or Lifesaving Society). Due to the demographic of the recreation center these positions will be supporting, applicants must be 19 years or older.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional certifications such as High Five and NCCP, non-violent crisis training and/or enrollment in a youth-focused program (Child & Youth Care, Youth Justice) are considered assets. 

Youth centre and youth program shifts include afterschool, evening and weekend hours.

What We Offer:

The City offers a CUPE hourly rate for Program Leaders of $25.22-$29.48 (2024 rates) plus 12% in lieu of benefits.
