The Opportunity  Utilities Department | Full-Time Position (4 month seasonal) | Monday-Friday | 8:00am-4:30pm | May-August

Looking for summer employment? Lacombe County is seeking a dedicated and responsible Summer Student Utility Operator to join our Utilities department.
The successful candidate will assist licensed operators in the day-to-day operations of utility systems. This position provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in water treatment, distribution, wastewater treatment, and collection systems.
The approximate term date for this 4 month position is April 29, 2024 - August 30, 2024.

 

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in performing the day to day operations and maintenance activities in ensuring adherence to quality control measures and regulatory standards for the production of safe drinking water and wastewater treatment.
• Assist in sampling, testing and the calculations of water, wastewater and sewer systems to ensure compliance with policies, OH&S and provincial standards.
• Support licensed operators in operating, inspecting, and servicing water and wastewater equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
• Assist in the delivery of customer notices and respond to inquiries or concern promptly and professionally.
• Participate in the documentation and submission of required reports to the regulatory agencies.
• Participate in workplace safety initiatives and meetings as required. Report to work fit for duty and be ready to provide assistance during on-call emergencies with a licensed operator.

Key Qualifications

• Successful candidates must be currently or previously enrolled in a Water & Wastewater Technician program (or an equivalent program). Eligible to write Level 1 Alberta Environment Certification exam in Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Collection.
• Able to read, interpret and follow blueprints, drawings and schematics.
• Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License (current abstract required upon hire).
• Must have a proven ability to interact and collaborate with others in a calm, courteous and respectful manner. Must be detail-oriented, able to keep records and write reports.
(The starting wage for this position is $28.98/hr (includes stat and vacation pay).
