About You / What We Are Looking For

The City of Coquitlam is currently seeking a motivated and experience Development Technologist 2 to join a team of committed professionals in the Development Services division. The successful incumbent will review and process engineering servicing and related legal and financial aspects of development and building permit applications to ensure compliance with municipal engineering standards. This position will work closely with developers, consultants and other City staff to process these applications and assist with other project tasks if and when required.  This posting is for a 18 month temporary full-time position.

Specifically, this position will:

  • Compile, review and complete engineering servicing requirements for subdivision, development permit, rezoning, OCP amendment and other related project tasks to ensure compliance with applicable by‑laws and requirements of the City pertinent to land development activities;
  • Exercise and provide specialized and technical advice and direction; interpret and explain City policies, proce­dures, regulations, by‑laws and other requirements to developers/consultants, other City staff and the general public;
  • Work with various Engineering asset managers to analyze existing water, storm and sanitary sewer systems to determine capacities and evaluate alternative servicing options and impact on existing Municipal services; and
  • Review correspondence and reports, and draft agreements spec­ifying facts, findings, conclusions and/or recommendations, where appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will possess at minimum a post-secondary diploma in Civil, Structural or Geological Engineering plus sound related experience (preferably in a municipal Planning environment) or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification or eligibility for certification as an Applied Science Technologist within the Province of British Columbia would be an asset.  Experience with computer design software would also be beneficial to the role.

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $44.20 - $52.20 per hour (2024 rates). The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.

Additionally, there is an opportunity to participate in an earned day off/flex day program. This position is based in Coquitlam with some flexible, hybrid work options available.
