As a Communications Engineer for Calgary Transit, you will work with a team of highly skilled professionals for the design, management, acquisition, implementation, and support of the communications infrastructure utilized by Calgary Transit. Primary duties include: 

  • Pursue technologies that align with Calgary Transit goals and business requirements/objectives. 
  • Conduct system lifecycles, upgrades, maintenance, evaluation, and introduction of new technology; establish best practices to ensure system functionality, and reliability in transit system operations. 
  • Develop and maintain engineering specifications to meet codes, standards, and policies. 
  • Coordinate and partner with the external vendors providing technology solutions to the projects.
  • Oversee and manage maintenance agreements to protect The City of Calgary's interests. 
  • Support the partnership between Calgary Transit and other internal partners such as the Corporate Information Technology Group. 
  • Monitor and control contracts to ensure the Corporation's interests are protected. 
  • Manage small and medium sized projects through the initiation, detailed design, construction, and final acceptance stages. Ensure that the projects are delivered on time and on budget meeting the quality requirements. 
  • Follow the Corporate and Calgary Transit Project Management Framework and utilize the Corporate Program and Project Management (P2M) tool. 
  • Prepare procurement documents like Request for Proposals (RFP).
Requirements
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • You must have at least 1 year of relevant professional engineering experience in communications, industrial control systems (ICS) or related field obtained after receiving your P. Eng. Designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work Click here for more details 
  • Experience in Light Rail Transit (LRT) communications infrastructure and technologies is an asset. 
  • Experience in SCADA systems integration including data network and cybersecurity is an asset. 
  • Hands on experience in Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk Site Edition and CompactLogix software programming is an asset. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills along with the ability to successfully manage multiple tasks/projects and work effectively in a team environment. 
Salary & Benefits

$91,367 - $137,955
