BYLAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER (Buildings & Bylaw)

(CUPE, Auxiliary Pool)

The City of Pitt Meadows is recruiting Bylaw Enforcement Officers to join our Auxiliary Pool. Reporting to the Manager of Buildings and Bylaw, this position ensures compliance with City parks, highway, traffic, and parking regulations and other City bylaws during the busy times of the year. They interpret bylaws and regulations, process complaints, conduct inspections, and gather evidence to enforce a broad spectrum of bylaws and regulations. This position plays a crucial role in fostering a positive community environment and is in constant contact with the public. Successful candidates will be expected to explain and interpret bylaws to the public.

This position may involve irregular hours up to ten (10) hours per day, Monday to Sunday, between 6:00am and 10:00pm. However, hours and shifts will vary based on operational needs.

Requirements
  • Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses related to the work, plus some related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Bylaw Enforcement and Investigative Skills Certification (Level 1) – Justice Institute or equivalent.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office and Outlook, GIS, and Records Management Systems (i.e., Tempest).
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated use of sound judgement.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all kinds of weather.
  • As some patrols may be conducted on bicycle, some training in the safe use and operations of bicycles would be an asset.
  • Valid B.C. Driver’s License.
Salary & Benefits
  • Salary rates: CUPE Pay Grade 19, Step 1 - $30.80 (2021 rates) plus 10% in lieu.
