Position Summary

The Supervisor, Recreation & Community Services is responsible for the day-to-day supervision, operation and administration of the City’s recreation programs and services. The Supervisor is accountable for programming and partnership development, project management initiatives, and the coordination of service delivery standards. The Supervisor is accountable for development, implementation and monitoring of policies, procedures, and standards of practice related to recreation programs and services and will research and analyze trends, technical standards, legislative changes, and business practices to present new opportunities for service delivery.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for preparing and portioning meals according to nutritional care plans and resident Responsible for the recruitment, training, supervision, performance management, and evaluation of staff.
  • Develop, implement and monitor recommendations of the Department’s Parks & Recreation Master Plan as well as the Divisional Work Plan in accordance with Departmental and Corporate Strategic Plans, including and not limited to: Recreation Service Delivery, and community partnership/funding programs in coordination with Recreation department staff.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures relative to areas of recreation programs, services and partnerships.
  • Oversee public engagement processes to consult, support and foster the growth of partner and community groups.
  • Foster collaboration and teamwork with staff and community partners to initiate, plan, develop and deliver unique opportunities and projects to meet strategic objectives.
  • Lead the development and capacity of new community groups, collaborations and partnerships
  • Responsible for the development, management and monitoring of budgets related to the recreation programs and services portfolio.
  • Establishes and updates policies and procedures related to the provision of Recreation programs and services.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Qualifications, Competencies

  • Completion of post secondary education in Recreation Studies, Sport Management, Public Relations, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR Level C and AED certification.
  • Must demonstrate corporate competencies of Customer Focus, Results Orientation, Integrity and Teamwork.

  • Advanced computer skills including MS Office, Recreational Software, Scheduling Software
  • Strong and effective problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills and with the ability to prioritize work in a demanding environment
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to coach, motivate, and develop employee to achieve success
  • Demonstrated conflict management skills and methods to reduce tension or conflict between two or more people
  • Ability to research, analyze, and formulate solutions to complex issues
  • Proficient knowledge of related policies, procedures, legislation and initiatives
  • Valid class “G” driver’s license
  • Required to obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check, including vulnerable sector.
