This posting is for 1 temporary full-time position up to 9 months.

The Land Development Engineering Technologist is responsible to ensure compliance with Design and Construction Standards, statutory requirements and public safety. This position supports the branch through project management of special studies and preparation of agreement, policy and bylaw documents as required, as well as responding to various utility, servicing, transportation and traffic related inquiries, while establishing and maintaining good communication and relationships with other County departments, developers, consultants contractors and the general public.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise on behalf of Strathcona County for the facilitation and review of proposals for urban and rural subdivision applications, land use amendments, capital projects, provincial projects and development permit applications with respect to transportation, utility servicing, stormwater management and surface drainage
  • Monitor new land development and infrastructure construction related to both land development agreements and development permits
  • Provide site inspections for construction of municipal infrastructure within new developments to ensure engineering servicing standards are in compliance 
  • Provide site inspections of development permits to ensure compliance with the accepted drawings and best management practices
  • Provide ongoing monitoring of development activities regarding water, sewer, pavement construction and safety standards
  • Provide field inspection reports on all construction activities and report discrepancies to the Coordinator, Development Engineering and Construction and monitor correction of identified discrepancies
  • Provide assistance in the certification process for construction completion and final acceptance through conducting field inspections and office work as required
  • Assist in the review and acceptance of engineering record plans
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers regarding construction inspections, drainage and County specifications
Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Diploma in civil engineering technology with related land development experience is an asset; an Engineer In Training may be considered
  • Extensive knowledge in design and construction of transportation engineering, shallow utility installation, water and wastewater engineering, stormwater management and erosion
  • Registered as a Certified Engineering Technologist with the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta or an Engineer In Training with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, AutoCad and other database programs
  • Knowledge of construction materials for roadways, underground utilities and shallow utilities, and testing  procedures
  • Ability to interpret detailed engineering drawings and reports, geotechnical reports and storm water drainage drawings and reports
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Conditions of Employment

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits  
  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time 
Salary & Benefits

Salary: $41.15 - $51.43 per hour
