About The Position
Planners are responsible for a broad range of both public policy and development services work within the planning division that is fundamental to an integrated approach to community building. Working as part of a practical and progressive team that is customer oriented and community facing, the Planner will have the opportunity to lead, manage, and collaborate on all types of development applications, tackle solutions to community planning challenges, and review and understand changes needed to accommodate emerging community trends.
The selected candidate will be placed into the position of Planner I or Planner II based on meeting the appropriate minimum requirements. Qualifications for each classification are outlined below.
Position Requirements - Planner I
- College diploma in Urban Planning or related program
- Two (2) years of related experience
- Ability to obtain membership in the Ontario Professional Planning Institute (OPPI)
- Ability to obtain membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP)
Position Requirements - Planner II
- Honours degree in Urban Planning or related program
- Three (3) years of related experience
- Membership in good standing in the Ontario Professional Planning Institute (OPPI), or actively in pursuit
- Membership in good standing in the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), or actively in pursuit
Demonstrated Skills And Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of the Planning Act, Provincial policy Statement, other Provincial plans and legislation, and local planning responsibilities;
- Excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills to deal effectively with internal and external customers and stakeholders;
- Ability to effectively research and analyze relevant information to clearly interpret legislation and by-laws relate to planning matters;
- Ability to apply knowledge and planning expertise to provide appropriate advice and guidance on a variety of planning matters;
- Exposure and / or working knowledge of workflow management and project managements concepts;
- Strong computer skills in MS Office and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Salary And Benefits
Planner I: $57,839.60 - $88,979.80;
Planner II: $66,976.00- $103,030.20, along with a competitive benefits package complete with extended health, travel and dental benefits, access to our Employee & Family Assistance Plan (EFAP), and enrollment in OMERS (Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System) pension plan.
