Leduc County is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Pesticide Applicator to join our team. Reporting to the Agricultural Services Coordinator, this exciting opportunity controls vegetation within the municipal right-of-ways on Leduc County properties. As a member of the Agricultural Services team, the Pesticide Applicator contributes to the achievement of the department’s operational deliverables.

What you will do
- Contributes to the maintenance of the department’s agricultural program by performing work such as:
- Picking garbage from ditches to ensure safe and convenient mowing, along with clean roadways.
- Prepare various equipment and machinery for the season by inspecting and completing yearly maintenance.
- Conducts safe herbicide application in compliance with the Code of Practice for Pesticide within the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (EPA) and Standards and Good Practices for Industrial Vegetation Management guidelines.
- Assists with the development of plans and maintenance of vegetation control on Leduc County properties.
- Inspects, remedies and maintains the overall vegetation control within the municipal right-of-ways of Leduc County properties.
- You will be assigned a spray truck with a 750 gallon tank and boomless nozzles that you can operate while inside the truck using a Global Positioning System (GPS) and calibrated spray equipment. On occasion, the handgun attachment that is attached to the truck is required for areas that cannot be accessed easily from the road.
- Occasional backpack spraying is required.
- Once the growing season has started, the majority of the workday is spent in your spray truck driving throughout the county.
- Performs daily preventative maintenance checks of spray equipment and machinery.
- Practices safe use, handling, and storage of all pesticides and related equipment.
- Operates trucks, trailers, tractors, and live power equipment.
- Adheres to guidelines as set out in Leduc County’s policies and administrative directives.
- Accountable for working in compliance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code and participation in the Health, Safety and Wellness Program.
- Performs related duties as required and assigned.
What you need to succeed
Must-have
A high school diploma and a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license.
Nice to have
A pesticide applicator license and experience with Global Positioning System (GPS), calibrated spray equipment, identifying regional weeds, an agricultural background and/or experience, basic knowledge and experience with hand and power tools, as well as experience and willingness to use a chainsaw are assets.

We offer a competitive hourly salary of between $ 19.14-$24.62, This opportunity is seasonal full-time and is 40 hours per week scheduled Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. for the first month and a half, then switching to 6:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday schedule for the remainder of the season. Hours of work may vary to meet operational requirements.
