Headquartered in Pemberton, the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) delivers a wide range of regional, sub-regional and local services to its residents. The SLRD is a BC Regional District consisting of four member municipalities (Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton, Lillooet) and four electoral areas. Services include land use planning, solid waste management, building inspection, fire protection, emergency preparedness, 911 services, recreation, water and sewer utilities, regional transit, trails and open spaces as well as financial support for various community services.

The region contains some of the most spectacular forests, waterways, and mountains in the province and affords an endless range of opportunities for outdoor adventure, making it an exceptional place to live, work and play.

The SLRD is hiring 2 temporary, part-time Local FireSmart Representatives (LFRs) for a 36-week term, for the following Electoral Areas:

- Electoral Areas A & B (1 position)

- Electoral Areas C & D (1 position)

Reporting to the Wildfire Mitigation Lead, the LFR is responsible for the implementation of the SLRD FireSmart Residential program by actively supporting community members with wildfire preparedness, prevention, and mitigation through public education as well as residential vulnerability assessments and recommendations. 

The successful candidate will work directly with residents in their communities, as well as remotely from home. Access to a reliable internet connection and a vehicle in order to deliver in-person FireSmart activities in remote areas of the SLRD are required. 

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of fire prevention, FireSmart, and emergency preparedness programs.

• Strong local knowledge of SLRD Electoral Areas, local First Nations and communities.

• Knowledge of fire and public safety education, fire service operation and emergency management are required.

• Strong ability to work independently, to manage and organize work schedules and FireSmart Assessments bookings, and to organize travel in rural and remote areas.

• Ability to effectively deliver educational and outreach materials to a variety of audiences.

• Local FireSmart Representative and/or Wildfire Mitigation Specialist qualification or willingness to obtain.

• Preference may be given to individuals who have firefighting experience.

• Ability to work evenings and weekends.

• Bending, kneeling, twisting, reaching

• Walking on uneven surfaces

• Sitting/standing for extended periods of time

• Operating vehicles, at times through mountainous terrain

Salary & Benefits

$37 per hour + 8% in lieu of benefits.
