Director Land Remediation Policy
$102,900.00 - $136,700.11 annually


The Environmental Protection Division works to protect the human and environmental health of the province.  Through the administration of the Environmental Management Act and the Integrated Pest Management Act and their regulations, the Environmental Standards Branch develops pollution prevention legislation, codes, regulations, standards and policies and is responsible for a wide array of environmental regulatory and non-regulatory programs.
 

The Director, Land Remediation Policy leads the planning, development, and delivery of land remediation policies in British Columbia under the Environmental Management Act and Contaminated Sites Regulation. This role provides leadership to a team of policy and technical specialists responsible for contaminated sites legislation, regulation and policy.   The position works in close collaboration with other areas of the Environmental Protection Division responsible for operational components of the program. The Director provides advice to senior government and ministry officials, manages financial and people resources.

 

 

Requirements

Qualifications for this role include:
 

  • University degree or higher in business administration, public administration, environmental management, or equivalent degree.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in a senior operational management capacity in the public or private sector including, but not limited to:
    • Business and organizational planning accountabilities
    • Engaging multi-stakeholders and building and maintaining effective relationships 
    • Leading teams and program management
    • Providing advice to executive/senior leadership 
    • Developing and improving regulation or policy
  • Experience with collaborative partnerships across governments, Indigenous Nations or organizations, industry, academia, stakeholders and the public.
  • Experience in issues management and negotiating agreements.
  • Two (2) years or more of experience managing large, complex, politically sensitive and provincially significant files involving numerous and divergent stakeholders (including the public, industry, local governments, other provincial and federal agencies, and First Nations)
  • Two (2) years or more of experience in direct staff supervision in an HR capacity, within the last five (5) years.
