The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Recreation Coordinator, Operations this role is responsible for maintaining Class “A” swimming pools, building grounds, and equipment at various Town of Caledon Recreation facilities. As Facility Maintenance TFT, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:
- Clean and maintain the facility (sweep, wash/strip floors, vacuum, wash windows/doors, clean washrooms/change rooms, empty garbage, etc.)
- Perform general carpentry and painting work (build shelves, paint rooms, etc.)
- Maintain the building grounds (i.e., landscape, water, cut grass, shovel snow, clear ice)
- Maintain the exterior of the facility (i.e., painting, general roof maintenance)
- Maintain arena/ice facilities and equipment (if applicable), operate ice re-surfacer, install and remove ice, install and maintain nets, take compressor readings, edge, chip, and crosscut ice, paint lines, drain chiller, add oil to compressor. Perform minor repairs to arena refrigeration system
- Maintain the swimming pool (if applicable). Conduct checks every two hours and refill chemicals as needed, backwash, and vacuum. Perform minor repairs to swimming pool filtration system
- Check the electrical heating and air conditioning systems, perform preventative maintenance (e.g., changing filters, oiling, etc.) and perform minor repairs or notify Recreation Supervisor/Operations Coordinator to arrange repairs, as required
- Maintain records and logbooks relating to the operation of refrigeration, pool filtration, HVAC and building equipment
- Set-up meeting rooms for user functions including weddings, dances, etc. and open and close the facility, ensuring that alarms are set; doors are locked/unlocked, etc.
- Check building emergency systems and maintain the Building Automation Program
- Perform additional duties and undertake special projects as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking an enthusiastic professional with high school diploma or closely related field. The ideal candidate must have minimum 1-3 years related experience in arenas, pools and/or recreation centres, as well as thorough working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical system. The candidate must have a Standard First Aid Certificate (or ability to obtain prior to or during the first month of employment) and a valid driver’s licence with no more than 3 demerit points and daily access to a vehicle. ORFA training is considered an asset.
The ideal candidate will be able to meet the physical demands of the position including strenuous movement requiring more effort, lifting to 50 lbs., and demonstrated ability to work at heights. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products would be an asset. Experience in maintenance of arena refrigeration systems: ice preparation; operation and maintenance of ice resurfacing and related equipment; maintenance of gas-powered mechanical equipment would also be considered an asset. The candidate must demonstrate customer service excellence that reflects Caledon’s quality standards: accurate, courteous, responsive and easy to navigate, as well as exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail to avoid errors and the ability to meet deadlines.
Satisfactory passing of a vulnerable sector check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
his position offers a rate of pay of $24.41, based on a 40-hour work week.
