Job Summary:
Under general supervision, performs public transportation and paratransit (Conventional, Accessible and On-Demand) scheduling, routing and dispatching duties; operates a variety of communication equipment, including two-way radio, telephone, computer mobile dispatch terminal and scheduling systems; creates, maintains and monitors computerized driver manifests/schedules; and responds to requests for service and provides a variety of information to passengers and the general public. Acts as the liaison between Crew Chiefs/Operators and the on-call Supervisor.
Responsibilities
1. Arrange for substitute driver(s) when a driver(s) does not show up for a shift, calls in absent, or needs to be replaced during their shift.
2. Monitor conventional service routes using various software to ensure the integrity of schedules and public interface. Keeping the supervisory team abreast of service and employee statuses.
3. Prepare, maintain, and monitor a variety of computerized and paper reports such as daily manifests, service requests, client information, driver hours, mileage, and passenger information for all Transit services.
4. Consistently work towards maximizing efficiency. On-going monitoring of processes and schedules to improve services and provide the most effective service delivery. Keeping up to date with continuously improving dispatching techniques and technology.
5. Comfortable with the use of two-way radio systems, cell phones, phones, emails, and text messages for communicating and receiving information. Proficient with the use of computing and word-processing programs.
6. Provide clear and concise communication between operators, clients, supervisors, and other parties.
7. Maintain excellent knowledge of the streets, landmarks, and geography of the City of Grande Prairie.
You Bring
Education/Training:
- Completion of Grade Twelve supplemented by specialized training in communication or a related field.
- Proficiency with Windows, spreadsheets, and word processing software.
- Must have the ability to successfully complete training in VIA software.
- Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and constructively with department staff members, other City departments, and the public and lead by example
Experience:
- Two years of increasingly responsible communications, dispatch, and clerical experience.
Hours
Coverage is required weekdays 6 am-11 pm, Saturdays 8 am-11 pm, and Sundays 8 am-8 pm. You may also have two (2) different work assignments within a twelve (12) hour period(split shift). Full availability for shifts is required.
Days off may vary from week to week. Hours per week vary between 30-39.
Compensation
$27.94 per hour as per the Collective Agreement.
