The Opportunity:
The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting to fill the permanent full-time position of Environmental Planning Engineer 1. This position reports to and assists the Environmental Planning Engineer II in the planning, engineering, management and delivery of consultant delivered or in house capital projects as assigned. The Environmental Planning Engineer I will develop and monitor project budgets, designs and schedules to ensure that project objectives are met. The Environmental Planning Engineer I will be responsible for undertaking functional studies, pre-designs, detailed designs, tendering, contract administration, construction management, inspection and final acceptance of assigned projects. The Environmental Planning Engineer I will also be responsible for providing input into asset management plans for Environmental Services assets.
As our preferred candidate you will have:
- Graduate from University with a Degree in Civil and/or Environmental Engineering.
- Professional Engineer registered with Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta
- Project Management Professional designation
- 4 years of direct related experience in the design, construction, operation, maintenance and management of municipal projects / infrastructure.
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil, Municipal and/or Environmental Engineering.
- Ability to independently perform calculations and design work to a high level of accuracy where errors may have significant negative consequences.
- Knowledge of the principles of surveying and computer aided drafting and design.
- Knowledge of computer engineering applications and operation in conjunction with normal duties.
- Knowledge of the current methods and techniques as applied to design and construction of various Civil/Municipal works; including water, sanitary sewage, storm drainage, waste management and/or utility installations.
- Ability to work with contractors, consultants, City staff, property owners, and the general public.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to learn, understand and apply new technologies.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
