The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Manager, Business Attraction & Investment, this role is responsible for delivering the core economic development activities of the Business Attraction & Investment Division. This includes business support and new investment servicing, research and reporting, and event and project management to support the diversification and growth of the Caledon economy. As the Economic Development Officer, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

  • Respond to information requests from the public and provide related follow-up, including data, coordinating meetings, and providing assistance navigating the non-residential development approvals process
  • Respond to new investment inquiries and prepare related site selection response packages and presentations in collaboration with Division staff
  • Organize familiarization and site visit tours for site selectors, and provincial and federal economic development partners
  • Research, analyze and report on economic activity and trends to inform Division service delivery and update key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Prepare briefing materials, quarterly, and annual reports to Leadership and Council
  • Maintain competitive benchmarks and propose recommendations for improvements to Division and Town services to promote investment attraction with a focus on enhancing business-friendliness across the corporation
  • Liaise with Regional partners to coordinate annual employer surveys
  • Perform additional duties and undertake special projects as assigned.
Requirements

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a professional with minimum education, training and/or knowledge in the above, normally acquired from post-secondary training in Community Economic Development, Urban & Regional Planning, Public Administration, Business Administration, or ICI real estate, or a closely related field. Equivalent education and experience will be considered. Professional designation from the Economic Developers Association of Canada (Ec.D.), the International Economic Development Council (CEcD), or the Project Management institute of Canada (PMP) considered an asset. Our ideal candidate has 3 years’ experience in municipal or provincial Economic Development.

The ideal candidate will have strong understanding of local economic development best practice, including investment attraction and business retention and expansion. We are seeking an individual who has knowledge of the municipal development approval process and land development in Ontario in general, a demonstrated ability to develop, research and analyze.

The successful candidate for Officer, Economic Development will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).

Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.

 

Salary & Benefits

This position offers a salary range of $75,892.79 - $93,006.93 plus a competitive benefit package.
