Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Area Supervisor, the Labourer is responsible for carrying out a variety of road maintenance and construction activities.

Position Responsibilities

Road Maintenance

  • Repair and replacement of signs and posts;
  • Assist with the installation of centerline and approach culverts;
  • Assist in clearing beaver dams and debris out of culverts and from under bridges;
  • Scale and check gravel on re-gravel and road maintenance projects;
  • Work on erosion control projects;
  • Construct fences that have been damaged by maintenance activities or road construction;
  • Painting of sheds, signs, posts, bridge railings and equipment;
  • Clearing tree salvage;
  • Setting grade stakes on ditching and construction projects;
  • Assist in the application of the dust control program;
  • Perform inventories;
  • Operate and maintain equipment (loader, chainsaw, brushmaster and bobcat);
  • Remove carcasses and debris from roads and right-of-way; and
  • General road maintenance duties as assigned.
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Skills

  • Completion of Grade 12 Diploma;
  • Completion of Flagman Training;
  • Completion of WHMIS courses;
  • Valid Class 5 drivers license;
  • Completion of Defensive Driving;
  • Standard First Aid and Level A CPR course;
  • Mechanical Aptitude;
  • Physically fit; and
  • Preferred candidates will have experience with the following:
    -Small and heavy equipment operation;
    -Road construction and maintenance; and
    -Culvert repair and installation working in a municipal setting.

  • Outside work environment.
Salary & Benefits

The annual salary range is $51,403 - $63,740.
