- Lead the development of safe, sustainable, and effective fire response strategies and systems for the City of Yorkton
- Ensure all firefighting personnel are trained, equipped, and qualified to safely deliver fire and medical first responses
- Respond, as required, to fire, rescue, and medical events within the City, designated rural response areas, as well as mutual aid requests, providing command, control, and scene safety at events
- Maintains liaison with federal, Provincial, and Municipal authorities and others on matters related to the department.
- Carry out fire investigations and compile documentation and report for the Fire Department and the Office of the Fire Commissioner
- Assist with the development and recommendations for the annual Fire Budget long with the overall Fire Department Operating and Capital Budgets
- Responsible for the outcomes of human resources management and the effective leadership and training of employees (fulltime, temporary and auxiliary).
- Participates in recruiting of staff and in staff promotional competitions; processes personnel problems, disciplinary actions, dismissals, and suspensions.
- Work with surrounding Fire departments to develop strong response and training synergies
- Work within Fire House TM software ensuring data accuracy
- Oversee Payroll and ensure all daily logs are complete
- Act as Duty On-Call Chief Officer for a seven (7) day period on a rotating basis
- Grade XII diploma.
- Must possess and maintain a Valid Class 3 Provincial driver’s license with an air brake endorsement.
- Must possess and maintain RCMP security clearance.
- 10 years Fire Fighting experience, including 5 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:
NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter Certification Level II
NFPA 1002 Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator
NFPA 1021 Fire Officer Level II or Equivalent
NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector & Level II
NFPA 1033 Fire Investigator Level II
NFPA 1035 Public Fire & Life Safety Educator Level I and/or
NFPA 1041 Fire Services Instructor Level II
Incident Command System 300
EMR level medical certification with preference given to higher levels of training
- A complete and comprehensive knowledge of Fire Department activities, including fire prevention, public safety education, emergency measures experience, fire and emergency response with the ability to lead and direct emergency incidents if required.
- Preference will be given to candidates with a Business Administration Degree/Certificate and/or Certificate in Fire Service Management.
- Experience working in a unionized environment would be considered an asset.
