Water Works Operator

Infrastructure Services Department

(Contract position; 40 hours per week)

 

The Town of Orangeville has a contract opportunity available for the position of Water Works Operator. Reporting to the Supervisor, Water Works, the Water Works Operator will operate and maintain the Town’s Water Supply and Distribution Systems. This is a twelve (12) month contract position, to begin in May 2023.

 

Job Duties:

  • Performing maintenance work on pumps, valves and other equipment in the water supply, treatment and distribution systems; assisting the maintenance work on water mains, valves, hydrants and other appurtenances in the water distribution system.
  • Assisting with keeping pump house structures, outside grounds and landscaping clean and properly maintained.
  • Collecting operating data for compilation, review and analysis; collecting water samples for microbiological and chemical testing to ensure compliance with regulations; reviewing SCADA data to review system operation and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Responding and documenting enquiries made from the public with respect to the water supply and distribution system, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Secondary School Diploma
  • Minimum Certificates: Water Distribution and Supply Subsystem Class 1, and Water Treatment Subsystem Class 1
  • One (1) year of experience in the operation and maintenance of water supply, treatment, and distribution systems
  • Valid Class G Ontario driver’s licence
  • Thorough understanding of the requirements of the applicable regulations that pertain to the operation and maintenance of water supply, water treatment and water distribution systems
  • Must reside in a location not more than thirty (30) minutes driving distance from the Operations Centre in order to be able to respond to alarms and other emergency situations; must be available for, and respond to emergency calls relating to the operation of the water supply, treatment and distribution systems during evenings and weekends in accordance with an on-call rotation schedule.
Salary & Benefits

Compensation:

  • Minimum rate $30.98 per hour, maximum rate $42.56 per hour
  • Hourly rate upon hire is dependent on the level of OWWCO Water/Wastewater Licenses held by the successful candidate (note that the minimum rate requires Class 1 licenses, at minimum)
  • Rate progression is dependent on Town of Orangeville service and licenses held by the successful candidate
  • The successful candidate shall receive a contract benefits package
