JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position reports to the Recreation Coordinator and is primarily responsible for the operation of the older adult programs. Responsibilities include:

  • Direct supervision of the Older Adult Centre including daily interaction with seniors, part time staff, volunteers and the general public
  • Assisting with the planning and execution of registered and drop-in programming, special events and fundraisers for older adults
  • Facilitating/attending member board meetings and Annual General meeting
  • Assisting in the screening, supervision, orientation and training of volunteers
  • Providing administrative and programming support 
  • Assisting with program registration and inputting of program information using the Xplor Software system
  • Maintaining membership database and accurate program records and statistics
  • Assisting Recreation Coordinator with tracking or repairs, purchasing supplies and inventory
  • Daily cash handling and tracking
  • Assisting in the production of the Seniors’ Centres Newsletter
  • Adhering to Corporate Policies and Procedures
  • Attending and participating in required staff training and scheduled meetings
  • This position requires variable hours including afternoons, evenings and weekends (as needed)
  • Occasionally assisting with general programs, camps and fitness programs will also be required.
  • Performing other duties as assigned
Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful applicant will have a Post-Secondary Degree of Diploma in Recreation and Leisure, or equivalent related field and a minimum of 2 years’ experience with direct programming in a recreation setting. An equivalent of education and experience will be considered. The successful candidate will have well-honed customer service skills that demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with both internal and external customers. The High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development certification and/or Principles of Healthy Aging certification would be an asset. Computer proficiency is essential; specifically experience using Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel and also Recreation Registration Software. Experience with Xplor is an asset.  An understanding of the physical abilities of the elderly and knowledge of community resources would be desirable. Candidates must have access to a vehicle. Current Standard First Aid, CPR “C” and AED Responder required.
