Under the direction of the Dispatch Supervisor, the 911 Dispatcher is responsible for 911 Call answer services, Dispatch Services and after-hours communications for Yellowhead County staff, partner municipalities and contracted clients.
Position Responsibilities
- Answer all 911 and related phone lines in a courteous and professional manner.
- Gather pertinent information to determine the type and severity of the call.
- Prioritize multiple calls to allocate available resources.
- Dispatch appropriate resources based on call information.
- Reroute calls to agencies not using centre dispatch service.
- Monitor responder safety by station keeping and responder safety checks.
- Pass incident information to responders via radio.
- Dispatch additional resources requested by incident commanders.
- Maintain logs and incident reports using provided methods.
- Maintain CAD and RMS data entry.
- Complete paperwork and documentation related to Centre Operations.
- Ensure the Centre is kept in a clean and orderly manner.
- Perform administrative tasks as directed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Skills
- Grade 12 matriculation
- Emergency Medical Dispatch and Emergency Fire Dispatch through National Academies of Emergency Dispatch
- Basic training in office software
- Standard First Aid Level C and CPR
- Class 5 Drivers Licence
- Completion of Defensive Driving
- Experience in Dispatch or call taking
- Ability to deal effectively with general public and staff

- Successful completion of a post-secondary education
- Professional Dispatch Certification from reputable college

- Three (3) years of emergency service experience in a career position
Working Environment
- Work is conducted in a closed office environment
- Not easily able to leave work area during dispatch shifts
- Shift work required and overtime may be required
- Requires intense listening attention in responding to emergency calls
- Dealing with upset callers and multiple incident results in high stress situations
The wage range for casual emergency dispatcher is $25.28 to $27.52 per hour. The salary range for full-time emergency dispatcher is $56,930 to $72,065.
