Description
Parkland County has an exciting opportunity available for a Casual Emergency   9-1-1 Operator/Dispatcher for its Emergency Communications Centre.  Providing services to a population of 245,000 in the area surrounding Edmonton, our centre is growing and offers a promising opportunity for professional advancement.

You will be responsible for receiving and evaluating all incoming telephone calls to determine the service required and ensure each caller is routed to the appropriate emergency service agency.  You will also provide services to those agencies under the dispatch arm of the call answer centre and monitor progression of calls to ensure an efficient emergency response.  You have the ability to apply logical judgment to emergency situations and obtain/record information accurately.  Strong interpersonal and organization skills and the ability to work under minimal supervision are required. This position will be located out of our Wabamun West Central Fire Hall location. 

Requirements
  • Grade 12 diploma.
  • Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD) certification.
  • Communications and/or emergency-related experience.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Capacity to work efficiently for long periods of time.

Assets:

  • Knowledge of the County and surrounding area.
  • Emergency Communication Response certification.
Salary & Benefits

Rate of Pay: $30.34 per hour

Hours of Work: Casual (as required). This position involves shift work which will include weekends. Shifts normally being 6-12 hours in duration; covering 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

This position also provides sick/vacation coverage (which may involve up to full-time hours at peak times of the year). The initial training period will involve a commitment of 200 training hours over a two-month period. Please indicate your ability to meet the above scheduling requirements in your application.
