Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Energy and Waste, the Waste Management Analyst is responsible for the coordination of waste collection activities and implementation of waste management policies, programs and public education to support the City's waste reduction and diversion initiatives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

•    Develop, review and deliver public education to inform residents of waste management program requirements 
•    Assisting with curbside education efforts and customer service complaints  
•    Lead the development of the annual Waste Calendar, including procurement, design, printing and delivery  
•    Coordinate the development and implementation of a number of the City's community-based waste diversion programs 
•    Assist the Waste Operations Coordinator with coordinating and overseeing contracted waste collection services
•    Complete the annual Datacall report (financial analysis of all City expenditures related to waste management) to assist the City in securing annual funding from the Province for the Blue Box recycling program
•    Coordinate the City's "Going UP" program to facilitate 3-stream waste diversion in multi-residential buildings
•    Implement and monitor the 3-stream waste diversion program in City facilities
•    Coordinate and supervise the City's corporate, curbside and multi-residential waste audits, and implement measures to encourage waste reduction and diversion
•    Organize the City's annual Clean up, Green Up Weeks community litter collection event
•    Collaborate with the Waste Management Coordinator to prepare staff reports, presentations, working group agendas and minutes, and respond to waste-related public enquiries
•    Conduct research, benchmark and analyze data to provide service level recommendations for consideration by the Manager
•    Coordinate pilot projects and programs to test new waste management approaches
•    In collaboration with the Waste Management Coordinator, implement Council-approved service levels and manage updates to the City's Waste by-law and enforcement process
•    Respond to and resolve public enquiries
•    Administer budget invoicing, tracking and reporting for Waste Management related expenditures

Requirements

Education and Experience

•    Degree in Environmental Studies, Science, Engineering or a related discipline
•    Masters degree or Graduate Certificate is an asset
•    3 years waste management related experience
•    Prior experience in a municipal setting is an asset

Required Skills/Knowledge

•    Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) 
•    Strong knowledge and demonstrated experience in applying the principles of waste management
•    Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and policy direction for solid waste management in Ontario
•    Well-developed project management and problem solving skills
•    Strong organizational and time management skills
•    Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and in a collaborative capacity as part of a team
•    Ability to analyze and interpret numerical data
•    Excellent customer service skills
•    Demonstrates good judgment and makes sound decisions
•    Shows commitment to personal growth, development, and leadership opportunities

•    Must possess a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License, and have access to a vehicle for use on corporate business (mileage compensated) and will be required to provide proof of vehicle insurance upon hire
