Working under the supervision of the Leadhand (Formerly Sub Foreman), the Power Line Technician is responsible for the construction, maintenance, repair and testing of distribution, transmission, overhead and underground electrical systems.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Construction, maintenance and removal of underground and overhead power systems up to 138 kV, including all outdoor substations and electrical connections up to and including the setting of transformers and connecting of secondary buses thereto.
- Required to provide 25 KV Class 3 Rubber Glove work.
- On-call and standby duties as required
- NH “Person-in-Control” (PIC) status as required
- Required to comply with Worksafe BC regulations and Nelson Hydro practices.
- Maintain a working knowledge of Nelson Hydro line construction standards.
- Mentoring PLT apprentices and new employees in the line department.
- Assembles, installs, erects, operates, maintains, repairs, controls, inspects and supervises all electrical apparatus, devices, wires, cables, supports, insulators, conductors, ducts and raceways when part of distributing systems outside of buildings..
- Perform line and substation inspections and switching operations as required
- Liaison with warehouse and assembly of all materials required for line construction
- Maintains underground ducts and cables when they are installed by and part of the system of a distributing company, except in power stations during new construction, including ducts and cable to adjacent switch racks or substations
- Other duties as may be assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training and Experience
- Trade qualification as a Journeyperson Power Line Technician with inter-provincial red seal certificate
- 25 kV Class 3 Rubber Glover certification
- Class 3 Driver’s License with airbrake endorsement
- 1 Years recent related experience
- Crane Certifications to operate any lifting device within Nelson Hydro’s System
- Level 1 First Aid
- Bucket Rescue and Pole Top Rescue Training
- Confined Space Training
- Helicopter Hover Exit Training
