The Regional District of Central Kootenay is inviting applications for the position of Kaslo Fire Chief. The Fire Chief is responsible for the organization and direction of a Volunteer Fire Department in order to ensure that loss of life, property or injury, as a result of an emergency incident, is prevented and/or minimized.
The Fire Chief :
Reports to the Regional Fire Chief or their designate(s)
Directs the activities of the fire department and is the sole authority & command at the scene of an emergency incident
Ensures a safe response to all incidents is a priority and that the response is appropriate to the resources at hand
Directs all volunteer fire fighters and ensures that fire fighters receive training to the standards adopted by the RDCK Board
Ensures fire fighting equipment and fire department property are monitored on a regular basis & are in good working order
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of firefighting best practices, techniques, and training programs
Incident Command Systems including the ability to take full command at the scene of an emergency incident ( ICS 200 )
Preliminary investigation, evidence gathering and scene preservation techniques
Thorough understanding of the Structure Firefighters Competency and Training Playbook
REQUIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 2 years supervisory experience in emergency and command control situations
Completion of the NFPA 1001 FF2 Standard
Completion of Team Leader and Fire Officer Training, completion to NFPA 1021 Fire Officer 1 standard preferred
BC EMA Licensed First Responder or willing to obtain
Completion of the NFPA 1031 Standard for Fire Inspector or qualified to obtain
