Communications and Engagement
- Develop and maintain a three-year corporate communications and community engagement plan;
- Lead the development and/or implementation of the Municipality of Trent Lakes brand;
- Establish and maintain a professional and consistent visual identity of the Municipality;
- Establish relationships, communication processes and distribution channels with community organizations and influencers, and with relevant media;
- Provide leadership in the implementation of internal communications to engage staff on strategic directions and day-to-day matters;
- Improve reach and engagement via multiple channels: website, social media, mail outs, and media;
- Develop, execute and supervise a variety of communications and public relations efforts such as writing press releases, coordinating advertising strategies, media relation activities, speeches and presentations, internal and external newsletters, displays and signage;
- Plan and execute public and stakeholder engagement activities which may include roundtables, workshops, interviews, surveys and in-community engagement;
- In collaboration with various community partners and organizations, develop and execute an email communications strategy to effectively reach all stakeholders;
- Develop measurement parameters and evaluate campaigns for overall effectiveness;
- Establish and ensure adherence to corporate guidelines in social media, analytics, digital marketing programs, privacy and data management;
- Establish relationships with qualified vendor partners (i.e. graphic designer, printer) and oversee associated project work;
- Work closely with the Fire Department’s Communications lead and offer guidance and support as required;
- Assist in the preparation of the budget for communications and marketing;
- Maintain the Municipal website including the development of policies and guidelines relating to the website and social media;
- Represent the Municipality with professionalism and accountability;
- Other duties as assigned or required.
Economic Development Marketing/Tourism
- Identify growth opportunities within the Municipality to promote private sector investment;
- Identify and develop new and existing opportunities for retaining, growing and attracting business in the area;
- Facilitate community and economic development awareness and promotion through the development and implementation of an annual Strategic Marketing Plan;
- Undertake marketing and promotional strategies and tactics to meet the goals and objectives of the Strategic Plan;
- Work directly with local businesses to inform and facilitate access to municipal processes and referrals to other economic development support agencies;
- Act as a first point of contact for businesses and organizations within the Municipality when they request economic development support or information;
- Create and implement tourism-related initiatives;
- Build relationships with the travel trade, hospitality trade, and key regional tourism partners;
- In collaboration with regional tourism agencies, lead marketing and communication initiatives that promote the Municipality as a business and tourism destination;
- Assist with the development of related advertising, promotional and marketing materials as required;
- Research and actively seek out funding and support programs from government and not-for-profit partners at the provincial, federal and municipal levels that support and promote economic development;
- Assist in promoting relevant economic development projects and soliciting community engagement and input;
- Participate in Building and Planning Department processes that relate to economic development;
- Work closely with the CAO and Economic Development Advisory Committee on all marketing initiatives that specifically aid economic development and tourism;
- Attend Committee, community and other public meetings, as required and make presentations and provide advice and guidance on issues and strategies;
- Act as Staff Liaison for Economic Development Committees of Council, providing guidance and support in the development of Committee work plans, assisting in the preparation and submission of budget recommendations/grant submission, preparing reports on behalf of the Committee and acting as day to day liaison with the Municipality;
- Actively liaise with local community organizations including the Economic Development Cooperative, Peterborough & Kawartha Economic Development and the Chamber of Commerce;
- Create and maintain professional networks with relevant stakeholders, including but not limited to community leaders, businesses, organizations, potential investors and regional committees;
- Liaise with neighboring Municipalities to share ideas, best practices and joint projects for economic development and marketing;
- Maintain general knowledge of rural land use, zoning and development approval processes;
- Monitor Economic Development communication, awareness and engagement performance against the Strategic Plan and budgets;
- Attend and contribute to public meetings to generate ideas and remain current on regional economic development initiatives;
- Ensure communication compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Economic Development, Marketing or a related field;
- Minimum three years of experience in communications and/or economic/tourism marketing in a public sector setting;
- Demonstrated experience with issues management and/or crisis communications;
- Demonstrated experience in media relations;
- Detailed understanding and proficiency in digital communications including email newsletters, social media use and technologies, and practical experience moderating social media and managing web content;
- Knowledge of the principles of community branding and identity, and graphic design;
- Knowledge of key tourism principles, practices, trends, research and regulations;
- Possess a valid Driver’s License in good standing.

$54,091.25 to $63,634.46 annually and a Competitive Benefits Package
