Description
The Niagara Region's 8 Long-Term Care Homes currently have opportunities for Part-Time Employment for Dietary Aides with opportunities to pick up additional hours! Once hired, and upon successful completion of a probationary period, employees are able to apply for internal vacancies including potential Full-Time Opportunities!

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responsible for all general kitchen work - food preparation, serving, transporting food and dish carts, table and tray set-up and stripping, operation of dish machine.  Perform related duties as required.
  2. Assists in the preparation of food and serves at special events, dinners, and smorgasbords.
  3. Assembles nourishment and supply requirements.
  4. Completes cleaning schedule, (e.g. wash walls, ovens, equipment, and other cleaning as required).
  5. Cleaning kitchen floor daily or as required.
  6. Assist in dishwashing area.
  7. Operates grinder, slicer, vegetable cutter, and other related equipment.
  8. May be required to handle cash and operate cash register.
  9. Assists and complies with Quality Assurance Program as required.
  10. May be required to call in food and produce orders.
  11. Responsible for documenting in residents dietary files.
  12. Required to rotate food within the refrigerator on a regular basis.
  13. In emergency situations, assists in the evacuation of residents.  Assists in other emergency situations (i.e. lost residents).
  14. May be required to do baking, prepare desserts, or special diets.
  15. Carry out all duties with appropriate attention for resident safety.

Successful applicants will have one primary home location and also have the opportunity to work in our other long term care facilities listed below:

• Gilmore Lodge - Fort Erie
• Northland Pointe - Port Colborne
• Rapelje Lodge - Welland
• Woodlands of Sunset - Welland
• Linhaven - St. Catharines
• Upper Canada Lodge - Niagara on the lake
• Deer Park Villa - Grimsby
• Meadows of Dorchester - Niagara Falls

Conditions of offer include:
• obtaining a vulnerable sector police clearance that is less than 6 months old from date of hire
• satisfactory completion of Mantoux Baseline 1 and 2 Clearance (or chest x-ray)
• satisfactory completion of a physical assessment

In order to be employed in our seniors division or any long term care facility, you must possess a current vulnerable sector police clearance that is less than 6 months old. Although it is at the candidate's discretion, it is encouraged that you obtain a vulnerable sector police clearance due to the length of process time.

Requirements

EDUCATION

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Completed or be enrolled in a Dietary Aide course approved by the Dietitian’s of Canada and the Ontario Society of Nutrition Management (formerly OFSSA).
    • Opportunities for education reimbursement available, upon meeting eligibility criteria
  • A current Safe Food Handling Certificate from Public Health.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

  • Up to one month of current related experience preferably in a long term care geriatric setting. 

SKILLS

  • Knowledge of kitchen operating procedures and food storage and safekeeping. 
  • Ability to read menus. 
  • Safety and fire regulation awareness.  
  • Must have a clear understanding of Canada's Food Guide. 
  • Must possess the ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff and residents
  • Ability to follow oral and written directive.
  • High food standards with an interest to upgrade
  • Goods standards of cleanliness and order
  • Reliable and conscientious
  • Well organized and have acceptable pace to meet time schedules
  • Must be able to exercise judgement and initiative
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position
  • Must have good attendance record.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate.
  • Knowledge of resident/client safety issues and demonstrated capacity to apply resident/client safety practices.
  • Please note that the Niagara Region requires that all newly hired employees are to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of being hired and provide proof of full vaccination, or provide proof of a bona fide medical or Human Rights Code exemption on a form issued from and approved by Niagara Region.

Salary & Benefits

Hourly Rate of Pay - $22.66 - $23.12/hour
