Description
Parkland County has a Seasonal position available in the Public Works Department for a Solid Waste Worker working approximately from April to October of each year, starting approximately in February 2022. Reporting to the General Supervisor, Solid Waste Services, you are responsible for the operation of solid waste transfer stations including providing direction to the general public, operation of waste compactors, maintenance of recycling and special waste areas and general site maintenance of transfer station grounds. You will possess the ability to effectively communicate and maintain an effective, tactful service oriented relationship with the general public. This position will be based mainly at the Kapasiwin and Seba Beach Transfer Stations but will also require travel to other Parkland County sites and coverage at the Stony Plain Transfer Station.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful completion of Grade 12.
- One year experience in transfer station operation or solid waste handling and in operating equipment.
- Successful completion or willingness to complete an Alberta Certified Landfill and Composting Facility Operator Training Course.
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License. A current Driver’s Abstract must be provided.
Salary & Benefits
Rate of Pay: $26.79 per hour (2021 Rate)
Hours of Work: 8 hrs/day; 40 hrs/week; Wednesday to Sunday
This position is covered by the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local Union No. 955 Collective Agreement.
