Description
Do you have a passion for plants and pollinators? Does the idea of gardens and landscaping in parks and public lands excite you? If yes, Saanich has an exciting opportunity in the Parks Division for an enthusiastic and hardworking team leader. This technical role involves project development, implementation and route coordination through supervision of staff in the Horticulture Section. The Supervisor is responsible for planning, scheduling and coordinating the annual work plan of the Section.  Working with a dedicated crew of horticulture and parks professionals, the Supervisor oversees all horticulture and passive turf in streetscapes, facilities and parks.

Requirements

Requirements include a degree or diploma in a field related to Horticulture from a recognized post-secondary institution; or Certificate of Apprenticeship or Trades Qualification Certificate in Horticulture and completion of other courses/training related to the position, supplemented by extensive, comprehensive experience in horticulture, including turf maintenance and greenhouse/nursery operations.  This should be supplemented by five years of progressive experience in Horticulture; experience in project management, budgeting, cost estimating and scheduling; supervisory skills training and a minimum of one year supervisory experience in Horticulture; possession of a valid BC Pesticide Applicator Certificate and possession of a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and a personal vehicle available for use as and when required. The succesful applicant will work Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. in the Summer and 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the Winter.

This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $44.21per hour and an excellent benefits package.
