The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Court Services Supervisor, this role is responsible for providing court support, providing pre-court, in-court and post-court work. You will be responsible for providing judicial support by opening and closing court, calling recess and adjournments, arraignments, swearing/affirming witnesses and interpreters while maintaining court decorum. As the Court Clerk, you will also perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

Ensure all court work is completed for both in-person and virtual hearings

Prepare, present and log exhibits

Prepare and ensure accuracy of all court documents including warrants and orders, ensuring accuracy and that documents are completed in accordance with legislated requirements and judicial delegation

Monitor and test court audio equipment before and during court

Ensure all virtual and courtroom technology are in working order before and during court

Operate digital audio monitoring equipment to record and certify court proceedings, operate virtual court platform

Input court utilization into database

Update and maintain court files and other documents
COVID-19: In consideration of the current pandemic and Public Health orders, the Town of Caledon is providing limited in-person services as Town Hall is open to the public by appointment only. The successful candidate for Court Clerk will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a professional with minimum education, training and/or knowledge in the above, normally acquired from a post-secondary diploma in legal administration or closely related field. Our ideal candidate has 1 – 3 years of related experience in legal administration or court support.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated public speaking skills to address large groups of individuals both in-person and virtually and superior interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
