Description
Reporting to the Manager of Engineering Services, the Drainage Superintendent provides management of the Municipality’ municipal drainage systems. Specifically, liaise with landowners, superintend and inspect the management, maintenance, repair, improvement and construction of municipal projects under the Drainage Act; status reports of projects as well as seek advice regarding problems that may develop. The Drainage Superintendent will also oversee the operation of the various municipal pumping schemes in co-operation with appointed drainage commissioners and provide inspection service for tile loan applications pursuant to the Tile Drainage Act. The Superintendent also manages the network of roadside drains within the rural areas of the Municipality.

Requirements

• Must have minimum of a 3-year College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent education and/or experience in a related field.
• Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the field.
• Must successfully complete the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Drainage Superintendent Course within the first year of employment.
• Must have experience demonstrating effective interpersonal, organizational skills and directing the work of external contractors.
• Must have experience demonstrating effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Must have knowledge of computer software programs in a Windows and Microsoft Office environment.
• Must be knowledgeable regarding the Drainage Act, the Environmental Protection Act, and other relevant legislation.
• Must be familiar with applicable industry workplace standards such as Ministry of Labour regulations, other legislative requirements, etc.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class ‘G’ Driver’s Licence.
• Must have experience with land surveying, emergency planning and spills management.
• Must have current First Aid certification.
• Surveying certification, confined space certification, breathing apparatus, sensitivity training, management training, site operations course, spill management, HAZMAT certification, gas detector would all be assets.

Salary & Benefits

$3,156.37 to $3,552.57 bi-weekly (2020 Rates). A comprehensive benefits package included.
