Description
Reporting to the Director of Planning and Development Services, the Manager of Policy Planning and Economic Development is responsible for the management and operation of the Policy Planning and Economic Development division and serves as the Town’s key representative on policy planning and economic development matters with the Province and York Region. The Manager is responsible for the formulation of planning policies related to the Town’s Official Plan and other land use planning initiatives of interest to the Town. This role is also responsible for the development and implementation of policy reviews and economic development related projects and managing the Town’s real estate assets including land transactions. This position will provide advice and guidance to Council, Committees, Senior Management and the public as may be required, in relation to the growth, development and long term planning for the Town and be expected to provide evidence at the Local Planning Appeals Tribunal hearings and other tribunals. The Manager will oversee and support a small team and from time to time assume the statutory duties of the Director, Planning and Development Services in their absence.

Requirements

To be considered for this position will hold a University degree in Public Administration or Urban Planning along with a completion of a Professional Planning and/or Economic Development designation (RPP or Ec. D.). You will have at least seven years of progressive experience in land use policy and community planning, policy/project management experience in a municipal environment with a minimum of three years supervisory/management experience. Thorough knowledge of the Ontario Planning Act, Development Charges Act and the Real Estate Industry along with relevant public policy, practices, provincial legislation and current issues affecting local government. You will have demonstrated economic development experience with knowledge of business retention and expansion strategies, economic modelling and related analytics. You will possess superior decision-making, project-management, presentation and report writing skills, sound judgement and will be able to effectively communicate with a broad range of stakeholders, including community representatives, senior staff, elected officials and staff at all levels of the organization. You will hold a valid class “G” driver’s license and a reliable vehicle to use for Town business and the availability to attend evening and/or weekend meetings, special events, etc.

Successful applicants to this position will be required to provide a Police Criminal Record Check that is satisfactory to the Town prior to their start date.

Salary & Benefits

$97,554 to $119,725
