Our Recreation Centre includes a large gymnasium, youth lounge, weight room, meeting rooms, seasonal swimming pool and ice arena. Indoor and outdoor recreation programs are offered for all age groups throughout the year. The department also oversees the Campbell Region Interpretive Centre, which is the Town’s seasonal tourism and cultural facility.
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Recreation Manager plays a key role in delivering recreation programs and services to the public.
Our Recreation Manager must be competent in:
- Managing and planning the day to day operation of the recreation department.
- Promotion, development, and delivery of special events and core recreation programs.
- Supervising projects in coordination with government agencies, associations and suppliers.
- Ensuring that funding applications and reports to government agencies are completed and submitted when required.
- General office administration duties, budgeting and financial control.
- Overseeing the maintenance and asset management of the recreation facilities and equipment.
- Managing, directing and scheduling employees of the department.
- Maintaining confidentiality in the workplace and upholding a high ethical standard.
- Ensuring that all safety standards under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and relevant regulations are adhered to including Town of Faro Policies and Procedures.
- Providing excellent customer service to citizens of the town.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Relevant post-secondary education and experience working in municipal recreation.
- Demonstrated management and leadership skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others as well as independently under minimal supervision.
- Willing and available to work evenings or weekends as needed.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; report and proposal writing experience.
- Must be a “people person” who enjoys working with children, youth, adults and seniors alike.
- Advanced working knowledge of computers and software applications such as Microsoft Office.
- Class 4 Driver’s License with clean driver’s abstract.
- Valid First Aid and CPR C certification. Incumbent must pass a security check.
This is a permanent full-time position.
Compensation Salary commensurate to qualifications and experience, with an excellent benefits package and pension plan, and 5 weeks’ paid leave per year. Training and professional development opportunities are also provided.
The Town is willing to support the incumbent by provinding subsidized temporary housing accommodation for a few months while permanent housing is sought.
