Under the direction of the Manager of Environmental Services and Public Utilities, organize and assign work crews and equipment for waste and recycling collection, including landfill site operations, collection operations, transfer sites operations and spring clean-up.
DUTIES:
- Responsible for the supervision of all waste collection program activities
- Responsible for the supervision, promotion and implementation of all recycling program activities
- Responsible for planning of daily work schedules and timekeeping of work crews
- Responsible for optimizing collection routes and ensuring full utilization of manpower and equipment
- Responsible for all activities at municipal landfill sites and co-ordinate efforts with Environmental Co-ordinator
- Responsible to respond in a timely manner to public questions and complaints
- Responsible to ensure a healthy and safe work environment in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety guidelines
- Responsible for completing and submitting injury investigation/workplace health & safety/City equipment/property damage/hired equipment reports and ensuring daily equipment maintenance is performed and co-ordinate preventative maintenance with Fleet Manager
- Responsible for ensuring compliance at all municipal landfill sites and to co-ordinate efforts with the Environmental Co-ordinator,
- Assist in preparation of departmental budget and provide recommendations for capital expenditures
- Prepare tenders and/or proposals for contracted services
- Manage contractors and consultants relating to department activities
- Must be available to address issues after hours or on weekends
- Must participate in the City of Timmins supervisor weekend on-call program
- Create, revise and implement Standard Operating Procedures for the department
- Other duties as assigned
- Community College Diploma in Environmental Science, Civil Technology or equivalent
- Three to five years experience in a supervisory capacity with excellent management skills
- Possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License, Class “G” or higher
- Knowledge in the operation of landfills, transfer sites and waste/recycling trucks is required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to deal with the public in an effective and courteous manner and ability to compile various reports
- Working knowledge of applicable Provincial, Federal, and Municipal laws.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite
- Current and clear Criminal Record Check
$78,832 to $94,691 (2019)
