Position Summary
The Aquatics Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and operation of the city’s various aquatics programs. This position will oversee the development, administration, delivery and evaluation of aquatic programs and services and ensure a safe environment for the public and staff in accordance with applicable regulations, guidelines, policies and procedures.
Additional responsibilities include consulting with the community and conducting public engagement initiatives as well as overseeing customer service delivery and the promotion and marketing of aquatics programs.
Responsibilities
Planning & Coordinating – Design, prioritize and delegate assignments, activities and initiatives for the aquatics team in order to align with the tactical priorities and plans for Recreation & Leisure Services. Manage resources in accordance with corporate policies and operating budget. Recommend capital budget submissions for the aquatics program. Identify issues and recommend solutions in order to optimize resource utilization. Promotes and supports a culture of health and safety and ensures compliance with related policies and legislation.
Coach and Develop – Supervise, recruit, train and develop team and individuals to accomplish objectives and meet standards. Engage team members to work collaboratively. Facilitate communication within the team; support development opportunities that target specific competencies, skills or knowledge needed to ensure performance improvement. Address performance issues and recognize strong performance.
Customer Focus - Ensure the customer perspective guides decisions and activities. Engage with community groups, agencies and the public in areas relating to aquatics programs and services and conduct public engagement initiatives as necessary. Implement service practices that meet the customer’s and corporation’s needs in order to deliver quality customer focused services. Ensure quality, equitable, efficient delivery of aquatic recreational services encompassing a wide variety of interests, ages, socioeconomic diversities, and locations across the City.
Results Orientation - Use measurement methods to monitor progress towards goals and service deliverables. Review and develop policies and procedures related to the provision of aquatics programs to ensure service delivery to meet standards and demands.

Qualifications, Competencies
Degree/diploma in Recreation, Leisure Studies or related field
3 years of supervisory experience in recreation services (preferably in a unionized environment)

Standard First Aid with Level C CPR and AED
National Lifeguard
Red Cross Water Safety Instructor/Trainer
Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor
First Aid Instructor
Aquatic Supervisor Training or Aquatic Management Training
HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development & QUEST 2 certification to be obtained within first year of employment
Bronze Cross Examiner, National Lifeguard Instructor/Examiner, Lifesaving Instructor Trainer, First Aid Instructor Trainer, Aqua Fitness Certification (CALA, Water Art or equivalent) an asset
Certified Pool Operator an asset
Skills, Abilities, Work Demands
Demonstrated knowledge of aquatics programming and best practices in the aquatics field
Ability to deal courteously and effectively with all levels of staff, program participants, and members of the general public
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Advanced computer skills including MS Office
Strong and effective problem solving skills
Strong organizational skills and with the ability to prioritize work in a demanding environment
Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to coach, motivate, and develop employee to achieve success
Ability to research, analyze, and formulate solutions to complex issues
Proficient knowledge of related policies, procedures, legislation and initiatives
Required to obtain and maintain satisfactory criminal record check, including vulnerable sector at own expense
Ability to work outside regular business hours as needed
Schedule includes days, evenings and weekends; hours must be flexible to accommodate program requirements
