The Community Development Social Worker works with the Seniors Protection Partnership which is a partnership between Catholic Social Services, Covenant Health, Sage Seniors Association, Edmonton Police Service and City of Edmonton, focusing on preventative social work in the area of elder abuse. In this dynamic and challenging position, you will work to identify and implement leading practices on elder abuse prevention, engage with key stakeholders in Edmonton and surrounding areas, create awareness, and identify gaps in addressing this societal issue.

 

Your responsibilities will be to:

  • Work with various stakeholders to identify areas of need or gaps regarding elder abuse

  • Be part of an interdisciplinary team consisting of nurses, police, mental health and social work professionals

  • Assist with the development and implementation and/or enhancement of programs and services

  • Represent the City and the Seniors Protection Partnership at committee and community meetings

  • Act as a liaison between the community and the City on the issue of elder abuse

  • Keep current on issues faced by the intervention team to inform prevention activities

  • Prepare and deliver presentations regarding the issue of elder abuse to community groups and professional workshops and conferences, locally, provincially and nationally

  • Continually assess progress and evaluate outcomes the services provided

  • Ensure the community development work is aligned with the City of Edmonton strategic priorities and initiatives

  • Prepare briefing notes, letters and articles related to community development work and projects/initiatives

  • Plan large scale events centered around increasing awareness of elder abuse

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work

  • Registered Social Worker with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW)

  • A minimum of 3 years related professional social work experience, including working in the area of prevention and education of elder abuse

  • Understanding of intervention strategies in working with seniors

  • Experience working with older adults from multicultural, indigenous or vulnerable populations is an asset

  • A minimum of 2 years leadership experience working with multi-stakeholder collaboratives

  • Experience in project research, and analysis of data and evaluation (including developmental, qualitative and quantitative methods)  

  • Knowledge of a variety of community development theories and models

  • Experience delivering public education and training. Excellent presentation skills are required

  • Experience developing and supporting high performance work teams, facilitating and chairing meetings and tracking results

  • Knowledge of project management skills and tools

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, time management, prioritization, negotiation, planning and problem solving skills are required

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Proficiency with Google applications

  • Hire is dependent upon an Enhanced Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Must obtain business auto insurance for personal vehicle use on City business

Hours of Work:  33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Evening and weekend availability is required.

 

Salary:  $40.517 - $50.871 (Hourly); $71,381.21 - $89,621.24 (Annually)
