The Supervisor, Recreation Facilities is responsible for the day to day supervision and operation of the City’s multiple recreation facilities including arenas, marinas, aquatics, and community facilities. This position is accountable for program development, project management initiatives, and the coordination of service delivery standards. The Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to a team.
Responsibilities
Leadership / Planning – Design, prioritize and delegate assignments, activities and initiatives for the team in order to align with the tactical priorities and plans for the Recreation & Leisure department. Manage resources in accordance with corporate policies and budget. Identify issues and recommend solutions in order to optimize resource utilization. Ensure the smooth operation of the City of Kingston recreation facilities by ensuring quality maintenance service provisions.
Service Delivery – Organize and prioritize tasks, assignments and work processes to ensure service delivery to meet standards and demands. Review and implement training opportunities for staff and develop training programs to improve maintenance services. Accountable for the development of operational policies, procedures and strategies.
Health & Safety - Promote and support a culture of health, safety, well-being and respect and ensure compliance with related policies and legislation to sustain a healthy and sustainable work environment.
Coach and Develop – Supervise and support the team and individuals to accomplish objectives and meet standards. Assist in the recruitment, evaluation and discipline of employees. Provide supervision to staff in a manner that motivates, guides and directs employees to the realization of departmental goals and objectives. Maintain a work environment that promotes staff participation, teamwork, customer service and positive labour relations.
Customer Focus - Ensure the customer perspective is a driving force behind decisions and activities. Implement service practices that meet customer’s and corporation’s needs.
Results Orientation - Use measurement methods to monitor progress towards.
Qualifications, Competencies
Degree/diploma in facilities management or recreation leadership or a related field;
3 years of supervisory experience in recreation facilities management, including experience leading a large staff complement (preferably in a unionized environment).
Other Certifications and Requirements
Valid class “G” Ontario driver’s license
Required to obtain and maintain satisfactory criminal record check at own expense.
Ability to work outside regular business hours as needed
Workplace health and safety training/certification
Preference to candidates with additional training or certifications such as Class B Refrigeration, Certified Ice Technician, or Certified Pool Operator
Knowledge and training in arena, marina and pool operations an asset.
