OPPORTUNITY:
We are currently seeking the right person to fill a permanent full-time Human Resources Consultant position in our Human Resources Department. The Human Resources Consultant (HRC) is responsible for providing knowledgeable, professional, and timely advice and services to a specified portfolio resulting in effective human resource management and strategic business partnership within the portfolio and across the organization while promoting effective and efficient management practices. The HRC works within accepted policies and best practices to ensure relevant collective agreement provisions, legislation, and appropriate decision making are applied mitigating risk to the organization. The professional services provided by the HRC will be in alignment with The City’s strategic plan and typically include recruitment and retention practices, labour and employee relations, performance coaching, workplace investigations, non-medical aspects of disability management, workforce and succession management and facilitation of training courses.
As our preferred candidate you will have:

Post-secondary degree in a related area (equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).

Eligible for candidacy for CPHR (Chartered Professional in Human Resources) designation

Minimum of five years of direct experience as a Human Resources business partner and generalist with a focus on recruitment and retention practices, labour and employee relations, performance coaching, workplace investigations, non-medical aspects of disability management, workforce and succession management and facilitation of training courses.

Must be current with knowledge and application of legislation and professional standards.

Excellent analytical, organizational and problem solving skills

Excellent written and oral communication skills, including conflict resolution experience

Aptitude to learn and contribute actively in an ever changing work environment

Well rounded knowledge, skills and experience in job description development, classification, recruitment, retention, labour and employee relations, performance coaching, workplace investigations, non-medical aspects of disability management, workforce and succession management and facilitation of training courses

Must be proficient with MS Office applications and have experience with HRIS

Ability to manage multiple, sometimes competing, timelines and deadlines effectively

Ability to deal effectively and collaboratively with internal clients, the public, and other staff at all levels of the organization

Ability to influence, advise, and disseminate information in a well thought-out, logical and effective manner
